Metallica has partnered with Australian Red Cross Lifeblood during its upcoming Australian tour to bring attention to the importance of blood and plasma donations. Through the band’s foundation, All Within My Hands, fans who donate at select CBD donor centres in the week leading up to each tour stop will receive a limited-edition Metallica t-shirt created by the band’s artist SQUINDO. The design includes the lyric “A Sea of Hearts Beat As One” inside a blood drop, alongside artwork celebrating Australian Metallica fans.
The shirts will be available to donors who are part of Lifeblood’s loyalty program, Lifeblood Gifts. Cath Stone, Lifeblood’s Executive Director of Donor Experience, says they’re thrilled to work with Metallica to increase awareness and boost donor numbers at a time when demand for blood is at a 12-year high. She adds that the band’s effort to encourage fans to donate is a selfless act with lifesaving impact.
This initiative follows Metallica’s collaboration with the American Red Cross during its M72 World Tour in the U.S., which helped collect more than 2-thousand blood and platelet donations. Lifeblood explains that just one donation can save up to three lives, helping patients with cancer, immune deficiencies, trauma injuries, or those undergoing surgery.
