Even though she’s battling an aggressive form of breast cancer, 70-year-old Carla Well-Knight of Mesa, Arizona, continues to give back to her community at the senior living center where she lives. She’s helped neighbors by donating walkers and wheelchairs, leading to her caretakers nominating her for AARP’s Wish of a Lifetime program. Her kindness was rewarded with tickets to see her favorite band, Nine Inch Nails, on their “Peel It Back Tour.”
Carla has long been a fan of heavy music, enjoying the music of groups like Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Linkin Park, but Nine Inch Nails is her absolute favorite. She even has a tattoo of the band’s iconic “NIN” logo. Having lost her husband to cancer, she says the gift is especially meaningful during what has been a difficult time.
Nine Inch Nails’ first North American tour in three years, including a stop in Phoenix last week, came at just the right time. From her floor seats, Carla enjoyed the show only feet away from Trent Reznor, fulfilling her heartfelt wish. She sees the moment as a reflection of her generosity and love of music, saying, “the more that you give, the more that you get back.”
