Surfer Recovering From Second Shark Bite In 11 Years At Same Beach

Cole Taschman, a Florida surfer, is recovering after surviving his second shark bite at the same beach in just over a decade. On October 25, while surfing at Bathtub Beach, Taschman was bitten by an eight-foot shark, a chilling repeat of an incident that happened to him 11 years ago. Describing the encounter, he said, “I almost lost the whole part of my ankle, and on this foot, I don’t even know how I still have toes.”

This recent bite was much more severe than the first, requiring 93 stitches, 10 staples, and three tendons that had to be reattached. Taschman was fortunate that a local food truck operator used his surfboard leash as a tourniquet, helping to control the bleeding before rushing him to a hospital.

Taschman was discharged from the hospital on Monday and is now focusing on his recovery. He has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help cover his medical expenses, with over $5,000 raised so far toward his $30,000 goal. Despite the ordeal, Taschman is grateful for the support and remains positive as he navigates the long road to recovery.
