A good rule of thumb is if something is such a recognized crime that there’s a slang name for it, you should probably stay away from it.
Several TikTok influencers alerted their followers over the weekend over what they called an “infinite money glitch” with Chase bank ATMs.
The influencers said that all you had to do was write a check to yourself for whatever amount you wanted, deposit it at a Chase ATM, and then immediately withdraw the amount from your account as cash.
It worked for some people, but of course, Chase quickly caught on and fixed the “glitch”…and then debited the users’ accounts for whatever amount they had taken.
Unfortunately for the people who tried it, this is called check fraud, or “kiting a check,” and it’s most definitely illegal.
One person posted a screenshot of their bank account, showing pending deductions of $31,000 and over $7,000 for “an ATM or deposit error.”
