ESPN once again made a run at Peyton Manning for Monday Night Football. And Manning stiff-armed them, again.
This according to the New York Post, who said yesterday that Manning declined an opportunityto serve as lead analyst on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
If you’re wondering how much the latest offer was, we can’t say, because the Post says it never got that far, as Manning simply isn’t ready to commit to the weekly grind of travel, preparation, and execution.
The inability of ESPN to snag Al Michaels from NBC also may have been a factor. Manning surely won’t want to enter a broadcast booth without someone he regards to be among the very best at handling football play-by-play.
Yeah, I’m guessing Manning doesn’t want the next stage of his legacy to be spending Monday nights in a booth with Booger McFarland.
Now if they wanted to start a morning drive show, yeah, “Peyton and the Booger” has a catchy ring to it.
But no, not Monday Night Football.
