Big changes could be coming to the NFL's playoff format if a new collective bargaining agreement is approved.
ESPN reports the proposal would increase the number of playoff teams in each conference to seven, with a 17-game regular season and a three-game preseason.
Only one team in each conference would get a first-round bye, with six total games on wild card weekend.
If the CBA is ratified before the new league year, the playoff format would begin immediately.
The expanded 17-game season would not be implemented until 2021 at the earliest.
League owners will meet Thursday in Manhattan.
