John Beilein has officially resigned as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The team announced he will be reassigned to a different role in the organization.
Beilein was in the first season of a five-year contract with the Cavs after making a jump from Michigan.
The two sides reportedly reached a financial settlement.
The 67-year-old Beilein says it was a difficult decision and he appreciates the understanding and support of the front office.
Associate head coach J.B. Bickerstaff will take over moving forward.
Beilein said he would not be stepping down mid-season if Bickerstaff wasn't ready or capable of leading the team.
The Cavs are last in the Eastern Conference at 14-and-40 and second-to-last in the NBA.
