LOS ANGELES, CA--- The Angels without both Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani snapped their 6 game losing streak by walking off the Guardians 3-2 late Thursday night. Cleveland starter Cal Quantrill had a great start, going 6 innings only giving up 3 hits while striking out 6 LA batters.
The Guardians would miss a few great opportunities to score throughout the game, in the 4th inning they would get runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, but did not score. Two more opportunities for the Guardians was two base running mistakes from Gold Glover Steven Kwan. Kwan would get caught in 2 run downs both in the 1st and 9th innings, with the most crucial being in the 9th, where he was caught between 3rd and home plate. The Guardians would score the first run of the game in the 7th inning, it would be Josh Naylor driving in Kwan with an RBI single. Cleveland would extend the lead to 2-0 after Jose Ramirez would be driven home from 3rd on a Ramon Laureano ground out. The Angels would quickly answer in the bottom half of the 7th, cutting the Guardians lead in half with a Brett Phillips RBI single.
Things would get interesting in the 9th inning, the Angles would get two notable hits coming from Chad Wallach who hit a double, then a bloop single from Brett Phillips. Kyren Paris would then tie the game with a single of his own. The bases were loaded and the Guardians would make a great play to, at the time, save the game. Guardians catcher David Fry would field a high throw from first baseman Josh Naylor on a groundball, Fry would reach as high as he could while keeping his toe on the plate to save the game and keep it tied. The effort would not save the game however as Randal Grichuk would hit a single to win the game for LA.
The Guardians will stay in LA Friday night, first pitch is set for 9:38 and you can hear it on your flagship Newsradio WTAM 1100 AM, 106.9 FM, the free iHeartRadio app, and HERE
