Woman Rescues Dog Left At NYC Subway Thanks To Instagram Post

New York City artist Heather Hamm has gotten more than a few items for free off the streets of New York. She got her couch and coffee table for free from people on social media, but she scored her best freebie a couple of days ago.

Hamm had been thinking of getting a dog, then on Tuesday she saw a post from the NYCFreeAtTheCurb Instagram page. “Emergency! Needs a rescue!,” the post reads. “Someone just tied this dog to a pole at a subway stop!!!” Hamm hopped in a Lyft and headed to the station, where she found the dog with some police officers. "I was just like, 'Can I have her?,'” Hamm recalls, “And they were like, 'She's your dog now, she obviously likes you.'"

She named the pit-bull mix “Peaches” and took her to the vet where they scanned her and didn’t find a microchip. The vet told Hamm that Peaches is probably between six- and nine months old and they gave her a clean bill of health. The Instagram post was updated with the good news and dozens of comments came in thanking Hamm for coming to the pup’s rescue and offering her support with her new fur baby.
