The Indians rallied for four runs in the ninth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers held on for a 7-4 win at Progressive Field.
Detroit dominated most of the game using four pitchers to take a 7-1 lead into the ninth before the Tribe was able to touch the Tigers bullpen for more runs.
Jordan Luplow and Mike Freeman walked to start the bottom of the ninth and then came home on Greg Allen's homer before Detroit's Jose Cisnero came in and closed the door.
Cleveland will now host the Twins in a three-game series beginning tonight with first pitch set for 7:10 p.m.
