Indians manager Terry Francona is out of action after undergoing a medical procedure.
The team says Francona's procedure was planned, but did not say whether it was related to gastrointestinal problems that have dogged the skipper since spring training.
Sandy Alomar Jr will manage the club during its series in Pittsburgh.
