A Team Of Dogs Is Rescuing Koalas Injured In Australia’s Fires

Koalas were already on the verge of extinction and Australia’s raging wildfires have hit them particularly hard. Many have died because of the fires, but one Australian animal trainer is using a team of dogs to search the scorched land for Koalas that are injured but still living.

Steve Austin has three special canines, Tommy, Emma, and Becky that track down Koalas they can save. The dogs are trained to find the animals by tracking the scent of their waste and so far this fire season, they’ve located 16. And when they locate a koala, he treats the dogs to what he calls their “ultimate reward” - a tennis ball.
