A fourth-grader who’s now in remission launched a bracelet company that gives part of its proceeds to cancer research. Becca Salmins started Knots and Arrows with her parents as she was undergoing treatments and hospital stays for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which she was diagnosed with when she was only six.
The bracelets are made from soft, flexible swimsuit material “to remind people to just keep swimming,” the 10-year-old explains. Not only is the company reminding us to keep on fighting, their name itself is meaningful and got them through tough times.
“Knots, when you’ve reached the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on,” Becca says, “and arrows, when life seems to be pulling you back with difficulties, it just means it’s going to launch you into something great.”
Since Knots and Arrows started in February 2016, the company has donated over $30,000 to pediatric cancer research and families in need. Now, Becca’s goals are to go skydiving, expand her business, and becoming an anesthesiologist, and we think she can do anything she puts her mind to.
