#GoodNews: Uber Driver Helps Save Suicidal Passenger

Uber driver Chad Farley had a feeling something was wrong when his passenger asked to be dropped off on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg, Florida. There’s no pedestrian walkway on the enormous bridge 200 feet above the water and nowhere to pull over safely, plus this bridge is known for being a top spot in the state for suicide.

So Farley kept talking to his passenger, learning that he has brain cancer. The men prayed together and the driver even took a photo of the rider before he dropped him off at a fishing pier nearby. And then Farley called 911 to report a possible suicide risk and sent them the man’s picture.

His suspicions were right, state troopers rescued the man after he jumped into the water near the pier. He’s in critical but stable condition, but it could’ve been a much worse ending without Farley’s response.

"We deeply appreciate Mr. Farley's quick thinking and compassion for his rider," Uber says, "as well as law enforcement's fast response."
