A St. Louis area high school student has found a way to help make swimmers safer at local pools. Lynly Brennan raised money to have sunscreen dispensers installed at five area pools after learning about skin cancer during a research project.
Really, what’s more valuable than talking about sun and skin cancer,” the 16-year-old says. “ I thought if I got the funding it’d be so easy to put dispensers in pools.”
And her idea worked. Brennan sent letters to local dermatologists, pool patrons, and anyone she thought would support her cause. She raised around $1,600 for the project and now anyone can use them free of charge.
