Thanks to the quick response of two young Milwaukee police officers, two teens are alive today. Officers Nicholas Schlei and Nicholas Reid were on duty when a car crashed into a utility pole, flipped over and burst into flames. A passenger escaped by kicking out a window, but the driver and another passenger were trapped inside.
The officers pulled the two 16-year-olds out in under a minute and the whole rescue was captured on body camera video. Reid says he and his partner “knew we had to get those kids out” and their fast actions saved those boys’ lives.
“I think that officers just like us, and at every Milwaukee police district station, even across the country, they would do the same thing,” Reid says. “Because that’s why we joined and that’s why we’re cops.”
