The NFL has taken new strides to improve concussion care, but one player appears to have been mishandled on Sunday.
And that would be Tom Savage who was somehow allowed to play after not only taking a gruesome hit by San Francisco’s Elvis Dumervil, lying on the field with his hands shaking moments later.
In fact, upon a closer look, after Savage’s head hit the ground, he appeared to even have a minor seizure while the ref looks on.
But you know who didn’t take a closer look?
The Texans who, just five minutes later, sent him back into the game on the next offensive series.
Now, in the Texans defense, he did spend that five minutes in the medical tent on the sideline but they didn’t seem to notice anything unusual.
At least not then as, after a 3-and-out possession, Savage was replaced by longtime Texans backup and sometimes starter T.J. Yates who led the Texans on the next two drives even giving the Texans their first lead in nearly a month.
Hmmm... why isn’t he starting again?
Maybe Texans head coach Bill O’Brien should have his head examined.
But not by team doctors considering it took them an extra fifteen minutes before they finally ruled out Savage with a concussion.
Speaking of being checked out, the league is looking into this situation as we speak.
