Paralyzed Purple Heart Vet Gets New Home

Thanks to Building Homes for Heroes, a paralyzed Purple Heart veteran has a new home, just in time for the holidays. Army Master Sergeant George Vera and his family’s new house in Land O’ Lakes, Florida is totally wheelchair accessible and features a walk-in shower, ramps, and even an accessible swimming pool.

“I can do everything in the kitchen. I can cook. Unfortunately I can clean dishes,” Vera jokes. “I can reach everything.”

He says the new home’s features will take the pressure off of his wife and allow him to help out more around the house. “It provides me and my family with mobility and a lot of freedom,” Vera says.
