Baker Mayfield Won't Start OU's Home Finale After Gesture, Will Play

Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley announced Monday that Oklahoma Sooners QB Baker Mayfield will not start in his final home game as a Sooner this weekend against West Virginia.

The move is not in response to his play, which has been stellar this season for the kid that is the front-runner to win the Heisman Trophy.

The move is because, well he’s a kid and sometimes he acts like one. Case in point, last Saturday when Mayfield made an obscene gesture and appeared to yell expletives toward the Kansas sideline during OU's win over the Jayhawks on Saturday.

Give the kid credit for getting out ahead of the mistake and apologizing well before any punishment was meted out as he explained his regret during a press conference immediately after the game and then even issued a written apology via social media.

Which is why he may not be starting but his coach has said he will play. Something tells me for three quarters in which he will put up five quarters worth of offense.
