The power is back up and running at San Juan’s Children’s Hospital in Puerto Rico and it’s all thanks to Tesla. The company used its solar panels and batteries to restore reliable electricity in what founder Elon Musk says is “the first of many solar and battery Tesla projects going to live in Puerto Rico.”
Everything happened really quickly once Musk reached out to offer to help and Tesla got involved. It’s only been three weeks since Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello tweeted on October 6, “Great initial conversation with @ElonMusk tonight. Teams are now talking, exploring opportunities.”
With the new system, the hospital can generate all the energy it needs. According to the head of the hospital, the power system is being donated right now and once the energy crisis in Puerto Rico is over, a deal could make it permanent. Now that is good news!
