A school bus driver for the Hickman Mills district in Kansas City, Missouri is being recognized for saving 34 students off a burning bus. Driver D’Anthony Gildon was driving his route home when he noticed the bus smoking, and within minutes it burst into flames.
Gildon had safely evacuated the students by the time the bus was engulfed in fire, so no one was hurt. He even rode with the students on the bus that came to drive them home, so he could explain the situation to concerned parents. Now that’s going above and beyond his job duties!
Hickman Mills School District spokeswoman Ruth Terrell says “he’s a hero,” and the students involved and their parents agree. But Gildon says knowing everyone got off the bus safely was all he cared about.
