#GoodNews: Neighbors Find A Way To Help WWII Vet Enjoy Walks

Harvey Djerf loves strolling through his Plymouth, Minnesota neighborhood and he’s been doing it as long as anyone can remember. But at 95, he sometimes has to take a break to catch his breath on his twice-daily walks.

So when his neighbors noticed this, one put a chair out for him so he could take a load off and rest for a few minutes when he needed to. And when other neighbors saw Harvey resting in a chair, they decided to do it too. Now the neighborhood is filled with chairs - Harvey chairs.

That’s not all his neighbors do for him. In winter, they shovel a path to the chairs for him. And some even bring him a fresh cooked meal, which helps so much since his wife is recovering from a stroke in a nursing home. “It’s lonesome being alone,” Harvey explains. So that sense of community helps keep him going and enjoying those walks.
