While everyone was searching for a way to help Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria devastated the island, Rosana Guernica, a junior at Carnegie Mellon University took action. She started a crowdfunding campaign on YouCaring and raised $7,000 in the first day, that number has grown to $89,000 and is still climbing.
"We are desperate to help the island and don't seem to know how,” Guernica writes on YouCaring. “No one person can solve these issues. No one government can help the island.”
The 22-year-old reserved a plane to deliver a thousand pounds of emergency supplies to her home and returned with six evacuees. She just made her second trip to Puerto Rico, this time with 2,000 pounds of much-needed supplies. And her crowdfunding campaign is still accepting donations, if you want to give to this good cause.
