When Chrissy Turner was just eight years old, she was diagnosed with secretory breast carcinoma, a rare type of cancer that only affects one person in a million. The Utah girl is one of the youngest people in the world to be diagnosed with breast cancer, but two years after her mastectomy, she’s healthy, happy fifth-grader.
Chrissy’s mom, Annette, says her 10-year-old daughter is a “quiet inspiration” to others. This month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so she’ll be participating in community events to bring attention to the importance of funding for research. And even though she’s young and shy, she has a powerful message to share.
“This experience has taught me to keep moving forward and never give up,” Chrissy explains. “Through my cancer, I learned how important family really is and that we should enjoy every second of this life. I love spending time with my family and friends and just having fun.”
