Florist Susan Davis was in Las Vegas for a wedding convention when the mass shooting happened. When she and her colleagues learned what happened, they spearheaded an effort to create a memorial for the victims’ families, using what they know best - flowers.
“We figured there wasn’t a place for families to mourn because you couldn’t get to the site,” Davis says. “That’s what florists do, we show up at the best times and the worst times in people’s lives.”
Davis reached out to Mayesh Wholesale Florist to ask them to donate flowers for the memorial. The company donated close to 600 flowers and within one hour, dozens of florists attending the conference worked together to create a blanket of flowers with an arrangement above that to look like angel wings. The memorial is right outside the family assistance center, so loved ones have a place to mourn and pay their respects.
