#GoodNews: Bikes Left At Burning Man May Help Hurricane Victims

The Burning Man gathering has a “leave no trace” policy, but this year thousands of bicycles were left behind at the Black Rock Desert event. And when a photo of the deserted bikes in the desert went viral, people stepped up with ideas to put the bikes to good use.

Meg Kiihne saw the photo and arranged to pick up and store around 110 bicycles saved from Burning Man. She set up a GoFundMe to raise money to ship the bikes from Reno to Florida and Caribbean islands for hurricane victims.

"Bikes can enable somebody who may have lost their home and staying with a friend, so they can get to their job at a resort so they can continue to make money to help rebuild their home," Kiihne explains. "They can get around on a bike and get to food.”
