After being diagnosed with cancer at eight, Emma Becker has spent her share of time in hospitals. The 12-year-old knows how cold it can be in there, so for her birthday, she asked the community to donate fun socks for other hospital patients to wear to warm up.
Emma’s mom, Rebecca Donkor knew that having a project like this could help take her daughter’s mind off her illness and boost her morale. So Emma has previously donated 12,000 containers of Play-Doh and hundreds of iTunes gift cards to her home hospital, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. And now her request for 1,200 pairs of silly socks was nearly doubled - she collected more than 2,300 pairs!
So this 12-year-old girl will help brighten the day of thousands of other patients, shivering in their chilly hospital rooms. And she wants to keep spreading joy, one smile at a time. Emma says, “No matter how old or young you are, you can make a difference in the world.”
