#GoodNews: Retired NBA Player Raises Over $2 Million For Irma Recovery

It’s only been a week since Hurricane Irma slammed the U.S. Virgin Islands, but retired NBA player Tim Duncan has already raised over $2-million and collected more than 400,000 pounds of supplies. Now all he needs is transportation down there.

These islands are close to Duncan’s heart because he grew up there on St. Croix and survived Hurricane Hugo there when he was 13. And he hasn’t forgotten what it was like to find “a new normal” as he calls it.

“I’m blessed with the fact that I made it through the storm. I’m blessed with the fact that at some point during the recovery, there was somebody at this end trying to put together supplies and effort to get it down there and get us back on our feet,” Duncan says. “I have that opportunity to be that person now and I’m not going to pass up that opportunity.”
