When the homes of 400 police officers in Houston were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Harvey, their police chief says they didn’t let that stop them from staying on and helping others during the storm. And when Officer Bert Ramon needed to get out and help his community, he didn’t let his battle with stage 4 colon cancer stop him either.
Ramon is a 24-year police veteran, so even though he’s going through chemo, he still still managed to help rescue close to 1,500 folks in the Houston area. He doesn’t care about his platelet counts being low, he just wanted to save people who needed help.
“As long as I feel good, I feel healthy, I’m going to go out there and work, you know,” Ramon says. “And it hasn’t slowed me down yet. Thank God.”
