The fine people of Canada spell the word “offence” a “c” but what they CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats did yesterday is offensive with a capital.
At least, I’m sure, to plenty of people in Texas after Tiger-Cats hired former Baylor coach Art Briles as the team's Assistant Head Coach Offence.
You know, the same Art Briles – who was fired from Baylor just over a year ago amid one of the biggest scandals in NCAA history, To remind you, the investigation showed high-ranking Baylor officials retaliated against those who tried to come forward with sexual assault allegations against football players.
Hey, can’t find anyone more offensive than that.
But it appears that news just travels slowly to the Great White North because hours after they made the announcement....
…they changed their minds.
Late last night ESPN reported that Briles will not be coaching in the Canadian Football League.
"Art Briles will no longer be joining the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as a coach," the Tiger-Cats said in a statement. "We came to this decision this evening following a lengthy discussion between the league and the Hamilton organization. We wish Mr. Briles all the best in his future endeavours."
Shame he didn’t go to the CFL, it would have been like his exile.
