When Bob Mulkern of Boston, Massachusetts, was diagnosed with liver cancer and liver disease last summer, he still needed a liver transplant after being treated with radiation. His wife, two sons, and daughter, Amanda were ruled out as donors, but Amanda’s fiancé, Nick Johnas, offered to be tested and was a match!
“I just couldn’t live the rest of my life knowing that I could’ve done something,” Johnas says. The transplant went well and they were both healthy enough to hit the dance floor at Nick and Amanda’s wedding recently.
"She's always been my princess, and we have our whole future as a family to look forward to, and I'm really looking forward to it," Mulkern says. And Johnas jokes that he doesn’t “have to buy a Father’s Day gift for 20 years or so.”
