Alex Van Halen, the legendary drummer from Van Halen, is teaming up with Steve Lukather from Toto to work on a new album. The project was confirmed during an interview with Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain on the "Metal Sticks" podcast. Van Halen mentioned that he and Lukather, along with a few others, are set to begin this exciting collaboration.
The album will reportedly include previously unreleased and unfinished recordings from the Van Halen vault. Both Van Halen and Lukather have emphasized that the project is about honoring the legacy of Eddie Van Halen, who passed away in 2020. Lukather clarified that while he is involved, he will not be playing guitar on the tracks, instead taking on a role similar to a co-producer. He expressed his deep respect for Eddie, stating, "I have too much love and respect for that and I play nothing like Ed."
According to Van Halen, there are "three or four" albums' worth of material in the vault, and the goal is to do justice to the music by carefully curating and completing it. The project is still in its early stages, and both musicians are committed to taking the time needed to ensure it meets their high standards.
The collaboration between Van Halen and Lukather is rooted in a long-standing friendship, as Eddie and Lukather often worked together in the past. The album is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the unreleased tracks while preserving the essence of Van Halen's iconic sound.
