Billy Joel is canceling all tour dates after a recent health diagnosis.
The "Piano Man" singer announced on Friday (May 23) that he will be canceling all scheduled shows on doctor's orders after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a disorder that has been made worse due to recent performances, per People. The news was shared in a statement on Instagram alongside a list of more than a dozen concerts that have now been canceled.
"This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance," Joel's statement read. "Under his doctor's instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period."
According to the Cleveland Clinic, NPH is a condition that occurs when cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside the skull and presses on the brain. NPH often affects people 65 and older and is "often treatable and sometimes even reversible."
Friday's statement noted that Joel is "thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health. He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage."
The 76-year-old musician also shared a message apologizing to fans who had been anticipating attending his concerts, saying, "I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding."
In March, Joel had to postpone his 2025 tour to recover from surgery and undergo physical therapy amid a undisclosed medical condition. At the time, he said that while he regretted postponing his show, his health "must come first." However, he stressed how much he looked forward to "getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans."
