Canton's WHBC-FM and WHBC-AM have been sold.

CANTON, OH — May 5, 2025 — Two Canton radio stations, WHBC-FM (Mix 94.1) and WHBC-AM (1480 News-Talk), are set to change hands as part of a sweeping national media merger. Connoisseur Media has announced its acquisition of Alpha Media, the current owner of both stations.

Once the gold standard in local broadcasting, WHBC-FM and WHBC-AM have seen their dominance wane in recent years. WHBC-FM, long known for its adult contemporary format, and WHBC-AM, a once trusted source for news and talk, have struggled to maintain their position amid frequent changes in management and programming direction. The stations’ decline was further compounded by the financial instability of their parent company, Alpha Media, which emerged from bankruptcy in 2021. What were once considered the crown jewels of Canton radio have since faced significant challenges in retaining their influence and audience.

In a press release, Connoisseur mentioned key markets in their expanded portfolio, including San Antonio, Portland, Salt Lake City, Nassau-Suffolk, Palm Springs, and San Jose. Canton was not mentioned in that list.

No immediate changes to staff or format have been announced.
