Runner Breaks Leg, Crawls For Hours In Olympic National Forest

A trail runner is recovering after crawling for more than eleven hours through Olympic National Forest in Washington state.

Joseph Oldendorf says he had been running for 12 miles on a snowy trail when he slipped and his tibia completely snapped off.

Desperate not to die, Oldendorf crawled seven hours through below-freezing temperatures to get cell service and then another four to Search and Rescue responders.

He was found and then taken to a hospital in Seattle, where he is getting treatment for his broken leg and knees that had been scraped raw.
